Case study: how we connect our young innovators with companies

In 2019 and 2022, Danielle Wijenje, a 19-year-old medical student, and Wendy Moraa, a 20-year-old sociology student from Kenya, secured MASK Awards Innovation Awards — three-month paid internships at Unilever's Heroes for Change in Nairobi.

Danielle reflected, "MASK Awards helped boost my confidence in developing entrepreneurial ideas that can pave the way for my future financial success," adding, " I am grateful to MASK for giving me the opportunity and making me believe in my potential as a creator, innovator and entrepreneur. MASK Awards has changed how I think. I see myself now not only as an upcoming doctor, but as a medical entrepreneur. I have ideas that can potentially transform the medical sector in Kenya."

Wendy said, "Winning MASK Awards has been a highlight of my young life, which will benefit me for years to come. I worked with a brilliant team, grew as a thinker, and changed how I look at the world. It helped me mentally, socially and financially. I am excited and hopeful for the future. Carrying the lessons I have learned with me, I am eager to test them in a new environment."

Elsie Wandera, CEO of Heroes for Change at Unilever, (pictured on the left) highly commended our innovators: they are 'fit for any organization seeking growth'.
